V-Day is a global movement to stop violence against women and girls.
Founded by playwright Eve Ensler, the V-Day movement works to raise both awareness and money for existing anti-violence organisations all across the world. These organisations continue to fervently fight to end violent acts against women and girls such as rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation and sexual slavery.
V-Day Campaigns all over the world give local communities, families, students, men, women and children the opportunity to take part in a number of annual benefit events. Such events include the much-anticipated ‘The Vagina Monologues’, Eve Ensler’s award-winning play, as well as numerous other fundraising events which act and depend on the creativity and generosity of the local community to educate people about the reality of the atrocities against women and girls.
V-Day St Andrews 2009 is proud and honoured to partake in this phenomenal movement. This year, we hope to actively involve both the student and local community, and give everyone the opportunity to support and learn more about the V-Day movement through numerous fun and exciting events.
Money raised from this year’s V-Day events will go to two charities – local and international: The East Fife’s Women’s Aid and V-Day 2009’s conflict zone, the women and girls of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
